Two of Bloom Value’s co-founders, Sampoorna Hedge and Dr. Arvind Conjeevaram, MD, India (a consultant nephrologist and transplant physician), are among a group of contributors to a study on the impact of throwball on the health of children with developmental and/or medical challenges.

Bloom Value Corporation supported the study by being an analytics partner for a chronic kidney disease patient survey in 2020 for the Nephrology Association in India.

Representing the International Throwball Federation (ITF), Ms. Hegde will present the paper at the 2nd Global Conference on Children and Youth 2022 (GCCY) (https://www.gccy.org) at Murray Edwards College, Huntingdon Road, Cambridge, CB3 0DF, in the Paula Browne House Conference Room August 26-28 2022.

Through the survey, it was discovered that 70% of the patients were facing issues with physical and social activities due to dialysis. While exercise is mandatory, the patients were unmotivated to complete it. The situation was worsened by the pandemic.

In order to provide better physical exercise through games, throwball therapy was introduced under the guidance of Dr. Conjeevaram, in collaboration with ITF. Online throwball classes were conducted in the midst of the pandemic.

The study was conducted at Aruna Chethana Special School, Bengaluru, India between March 18th and April 8, 2022, with students who were intellectually disabled, affected by cerebral palsy, and diagnosed with autism, as well as those facing other developmental and medical challenges.  Throwball sessions were conducted on alternate days. The body composition of the students was taken before and after the sessions.

The study reflected significant improvement in muscle bulk and body fat reduction. CKD patients also reported feeling energetic, had stabilized blood pressure, and improved stamina.
